The decree that officially brought the Lodz University of Technology into being was signed on 24 May 1945. The university’s first faculties were Mechanical Engineering with Textile Engineering Unit, Electrical Engineering and Chemistry.

Professor Bohdan Stefanowski, who, together with a group of outstanding scientists, laid the foundations for the new university, became the founder and first rector.

In a city like Lodz, which had been teeming with industrial life and innovation for decades, an institution was born that made a lasting contribution to the development of engineering in Poland – the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Lodz University of Technology.

Initially, the studies lasted four years, and the curriculum included, among other things, Specializations: energy and engineering, automotive, aviation, technology, paper and textiles. Starting in the fifth semester, students could choose specialized tracks.

The faculty consisted of distinguished professors representing the highest scientific level in post-war Poland, supported by assistant professors and a large group of assistants, who in subsequent years became the core of the university's scientific community.

Since its establishment in 1945, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has become not only a place of education but also a forge of ideas that are changing the face of industry and technology

In the heart of Łódź, a city steeped in industrial history, visions were born that transformed into tangible engineering achievements and groundbreaking scientific research.

Exploring the history of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, we will discover not only milestones in technological development but also stories of the passionate individuals, visionaries, and leaders who contributed to its successes.

The stories of the careers, as well as the personal passions, of these noble science enthusiasts are a testament to the constant progress, collaboration, and creativity that are the essence of our academic community.
